Mr. Shawn 'The Governor' Gibbs
"Stay true to your sense of personal style, and don't dress based off of trends; THATS WHACK!!!" Says the Governor himself Shawn Gibbs. When I look at Mr.Gibbs (The Governor as he is affectionately called) I always see a million dollar man because of the looks he presents, whether it's in jeans or a suit. Which is why I wasn't surprised when he stated at during our interview that his favorite places to shop where Saks, Bergdorf and Goodman, and Barney's. He also stated that you must be savvy with the internet and know how bridge all of the pieces together to make a complete look. It was very interesting to find out during our interview to know that Shawn has a condition called "Synesthesia" which causes him to see and smell things in colors. He stated that his interest in fashion started to blossom while in HS, whereas he didn't come to embrace and acknowledge his eye for style until his 20s. This is why we always see Sir Gibbs in a few of his favorite colors such as bright or electric blues, reds, pinks, and fuchsia. He says "I can wear these colors in a stylish manner that will never make me look crazy, effeminate, or gaudy". During our interview I asked; what are 5 necessities for the perfect look? He stated, a classic black suit, a brilliant pair of shoes, a great tie/pocket square/sock, a great pair of eye frames, and of course the icing on the cake, the perfect SCENT (not cologne). Mr.Gibbs stated that he has grown with classic designers and has followed the trends of Tom Ford for the classic suits and Gucci for the classic loafer. At the end of our interview Sir Gibbs gave me a few encouraging words, where he stated "You're becoming a true renaissance man in your own right!". It's a blessing to have someone like Mr.Gibbs in my life to speak positivity into my life. This Bedford Stuyvesant (Bed-Stuy do or die) native is one of the most fashionable men in NY from my fashion perspective!
